DRZ 250 Airbox Mod
The DRZ 250 airbox mod is one of the quickest, easiest, and cost-free ways to increase the performance of the DRZ 250. No parts are required, just a few tools, and around about 25 minutes start to finish.
Why Does the DRZ 250 Require an Airbox Mod?
The DRZ 250 has a snorkel at the opening of the airbox intake which restricts the air flow. This snorkel allows the DRZ 250 to meet emission regulations in some countries. By removing this snorkel and performing the airbox mod, it improves the airflow to the engine and noticeably increases performance of the DRZ250. The motor will feel much freer as it progresses through the rev range, as the engine no longer has to fight for air. It is one of the quickest ways to get more power out of the DRZ 250.
What is Involved with the DRZ 250 Airbox Mod
There are two steps. Firstly, removing the factory DRZ 250 snorkel. Secondly, opening up the airbox intake hole to approximately three times the size the factory intake hole. That’s it.
Tools Required for the DRZ 250 Airbox Mod
A Dremel is a brilliant tool for the job. With a Dremel cutting bit fitted, you can open up the intake in a matter of minutes, with no fuss. Alternatively, if you don’t have a Dremel, you can still use a Dremel cutting bit, but use it in a standard drill instead.
Clean Up After the DRZ 250 Airbox Mod
After you have finished your airbox mod, the inside of your airbox will be full of plastic shavings. You’ll need to give your airbox a good clean out.
Maximising the DRZ 250 Airbox Mod
Once the DRZ250 airbox mod is complete, the flow of air is far less restricted to the engine, however this is just one piece of the puzzle. To further improve the performance of the DRZ250 engine, and improve performance holistically, you need will need to upgrade the DRZ250 exhaust system and rejet the carburettor.
